Ferrets For Life and Friends Of A Feather have very strict guidelines when adopting out a pet into a new home.
~The first step in adopting a pet from us is filling out our Adoption Application
~If your application is approved we will set up a home visit with you and/or an interview.
~Next we will schedule an appointment for you to come and meet the pet you are interested in adopting.
~If everything goes well, you will have to sign our Adoption Contract pay an Adoption Fee
and then it will be time to take your new buddy home.
Adoption Fees
Why are there adoption fees?
Non profit rescues (such as FFL and FOAF) do not get any outside or government support to help pets in need. These organizations solely rely on donations and adoption fees to be able to continue helping animals in need.
What does my donation/adoption fee help pay for?
Donations and adoption fees help us to cover vet costs and providing (food, water, shelter as well as toys and treats) for the pets who are in our care. No one receives a pay cheque, everyone who works with us volunteers their time to helping animals in need.
Adoption Contract
By signing this contract, I am agreeing to the following:
I have completely filled out the adoption application form and answered every question honestly. I am financially and emotionally able to take on this animal and provide it with a LIFETIME home. If the information is incorrect on my adoption application form, Ferrets For Life or Friends Of A Feather has the right to sieze the animal at ANY time.
If for ANY reason FFL or FOAF decides that I am not able to care for this animal I am to return it to them upon their request. If I am seen as an unfit home my adoption fee will NOT be refunded. If for ANY reason I decide that this animal is not what I expected, (temperment, care requirements, etc) or wanted within one week of the adoption, I can return it to FFL or FOAF for a refund of 50% of the adoption fee. The remaining 50% will be automatically donated to FFL and help pets in need. If more than seven days after the adoption I am unable for ANY reason to provide care for the animal it will be returned to the FFL or FOAF shelter and the adoption fee will NOT be refunded. If I have a new home in mind for the animal (a relative or a friend) they will be considered as a possible new home for the animal and will be required to go through the FFL and FOAF adoption process, but only after the animal has been returned to the FFL or FOAF shelter.
Ferrets for Life and Friends Of A Feather are NOT liable for any injuries incurred due to improper handling, animal aggression etc.
If I have adopted a ferret that has not yet been spayed/neutered I must spay/neuter the animal within 5 months of the adoption at my expense. If the animal is not fixed within 5 months of adopting it, Ferrets For Life has the right to take back the animal.
In the case of birds and small animals (other than ferrets), I agree to never breed (on purpose or otherwise) or attempt to breed the animal. If I do breed (or attempt to breed) the animal, FFL or FOAF has the right to seize it and any resulting offspring and return it/them to the shelter.
I have never been convicted of ANY animal cruelty related charges.
I will pay for ANY/ALL veternary bills to keep this animal comfortable and healthy. If I am unable to pay for necessary vet services I will IMEDIATELY contact Ferrets For Life or Friends Of A Feather and inform them. FFL and FOAF have the right to take back ANY animal if I am unable to pay the medical costs to keep it healthy. If I decide that it is in the best interest of the animal that it be humanely euthanized, I will IMEDIATELY contact FFL or FOAF and provide them with a note from my vet.
I know the laws about this animal in my area and if it is illegal to own this animal where I live I will inform FFL or FOAF BEFORE adopting this animal. If I fail to inform Ferrets For Life about the laws in my area, It is my responsibility to deal with the conciquences. If for ANY reason this animal is taken from me or seized by another animal welfare organization, I will IMEDIATELY inform FFL or FOAF and provide full details.
